Tirana »

Tirana is the capital of Albania till 1920. Is a relatively new city founded in 1614 by Sulejman Bargjini, an owner of the terrestrial region of that time. The city began to develop at the beginning of the eighteenth century.Tirana today is not only the most populated city in Albania, but also the historical and economic center of the country.
In the heart of Tirana, Skanderbeg Square, is the Et'hem BeyMosque, built during the years 1789 - 1823, and the Clock Tower,with a height of 35 feet, built in 1830. The Palace of Culture, which houses the Opera and Ballet Theatre and National Library, is situated in Skanderbeg Square. In Tirana there are also other important institutions as the National Historical Museum, the Museum of Archaeology, the Museum ofNatural Science, Museum of Albanian Philately, the National Gallery of Fine Arts, the National Cultural Centre, etc. From the "Martyrs Cemetery" which is the monument " Nene Shqiperi", "Mother Albania" from where you can admire a beautiful view of the city. The Adriatic sea and the mountain of Dajti are near by the city. A large park with an artificial lake is located in the south of the city.
